A Visit To The Santai Spa

Our guest blogger, Sian Victoria, recently visited the luxurious Santai Spa here at Resorts World Birmingham. Read all about her experience below…

After a stressful couple of weeks of exams, I was lucky enough to celebrate finishing my second year of university with a day of entertainment, food and an overnight hotel stay at the resort. My Saturday morning began by checking into Santai Spa. The girls at reception were very welcoming and handed me a robe and a locker key so I could get prepared to enjoy the spa facilities before getting treatments.

The first facility I used was the heated lounges, these were amazing as the loungers are curved so they were very comfortable and the heat felt great on my back as I occasionally suffer with back pain.

When I just about managed to drag myself away from the heated loungers, I then decided to use the sauna. Saunas are fantastic to help flush out toxins through sweat, they make the immune system stronger and 20 minutes in a sauna can help burn up to 500 calories. If only I could use a sauna every day, I wouldn’t feel so bad about eating sweet treats that I shouldn’t.

Santai Spa have a salt cave, which I was looking forward to trying out as I had never been in one before. Salt caves are known for their benefits in treating skin conditions and respiratory problems.

Other facilities at Santai Spa are the outdoor hot tub, experience showers and a 15 metre pool. When it was time for my treatments, Ania my therapist came to collect me and made sure I was comfortable and warm, ready for a Lava shell back massage.

As soon as Ania began the lava shell back massage she asked if I spend a lot of time on the computer, as she could tell from the trapped muscle tension, so she really knew her stuff. The back massage was amazing, I almost fell asleep, and I was gutted when it came to an end. When lava shells are heated they help to smooth away knots, and they give off calcium ions, so when used on the skin can help to firm and regenerate.

On the day I was experiencing a break out, so I wasn’t really looking forward to having a facial. But Ania made me feel very comfortable and gave me plenty of beauty tips throughout the treatment for me to try out at home, to help treat spots. She started off by using the Dermaclear range to cleanse my face so all traces of make-up and dirt were removed, so she could check my skin and use the products that would be most suitable for my skin type. After applying a Dermaclear exfoliator, mask and serum, I was given 20 minutes of LED light treatment while Ania gave me a relaxing head massage.

LED light treatment uses four colours of UV-free lights that help to treat acne, rosacea and boosts collagen production. The next morning I noticed a huge difference to my skin, as my spots had dried up and by Tuesday they had fully gone. My skin is now soft, clear and bright. I’m so happy with the results from the facial and LED light treatment, it’s definitely something I would go back to have done again.

My Santai Spa experience at Resorts World ended in the spa’s bar, where I was provided with a complimentary lemon water and a cute bowl of lemon sorbet which was totally unexpected so it was a lovely touch to end such a relaxing couple of hours at the luxurious spa.
